EveLens on macOS: The Right-Click Ritual Is Dead

Signed with an Apple Developer ID, notarized by Apple, stapled. You download it, you double-click it, it opens. Like software.

For everyone.

Capsuleers,

If you run EveLens on a Mac, you know the ritual. Download the app, double-click it, and macOS tells you it "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified." Then the incantation: right-click, Open, Open again — or a trip to the terminal to strip the quarantine flag.

Starting with 1.5.0, the ritual is dead. EveLens for macOS is code-signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. You download it, you double-click it, it opens. Like software.

What "Notarized" Actually Means

Signing and notarization are two different promises, and macOS wants both.

The signature says: this app comes from a specific, Apple-verified developer, and not one byte has changed since they built it. The notarization says: Apple's own automated service scanned this exact build for malware and issued a ticket saying so. That ticket is stapled into the app, so Gatekeeper can verify it even offline.

Every EveLens Windows build has been signed with a verified certificate since the beginning — no SmartScreen warnings there. The Mac builds deserved the same respect, and now they have it: every future release comes out of the pipeline signed, notarized, and stapled automatically.

One App, Not 220 Files

Getting there forced a change that's a quiet improvement in its own right.

A .NET application normally ships as a main executable surrounded by a couple hundred library files. Apple's bundle rules — and Apple's signature math — want an app's executable folder to contain executable code and nothing else. So the macOS build became a single-file app: what used to be about 220 loose files inside the bundle is now one executable and three native libraries, with the game data files in the bundle's Resources folder where macOS expects data to live.

Fewer moving parts, a cleaner bundle, and a signature Apple's notary service accepted — the first submission came back "Ready for distribution," which is the nicest sentence Apple's robots know how to say.

What This Means for You

Download EveLens-stable-osx-arm64.app.zip from the latest release, unzip, drag to Applications if you like, and double-click. That's the whole install now.

Nothing about your data changes. Settings, characters, and plans are exactly where they were.

What's Still Ahead on the Mac

Honesty section. Two things are not in this release:

Signed auto-update — shipped. As of 1.5.0, EveLens on macOS updates itself in place: Check for Updates downloads the new version, swaps the .app wherever you keep it, and relaunches — riding the same Developer ID signature end to end. The signed download you just installed is the last one you'll fetch by hand.

The 3D SKINR renderer. The SKINR studio's 3D stage needs its rendering engine add-on, and the Apple Silicon build of that engine is still in the workshop. The rest of the studio — your collections, the Paragon Hub, community previews — works on macOS today, and the moment the Metal renderer is ready, it will install itself into the same experience.

The Ritual Is Dead

Mac capsuleers: grab EveLens 1.5.0, double-click it, and watch it just… open. That silence is the whole feature. If macOS so much as raises an eyebrow, we want to know — and from here on, the app keeps itself current.
